P.E.A.K. Panther,Enrichment and Academic, Knowledge-Extended Day Program, New to Sellwood
Submitted by Rose Mary Price on Wed, 10/21/2009 - 6:44pm.Sellwood Middle School introduced a new Extended Day Program to Sellwood families this Fall Trimester. The program is run on the fees for the classes and there are no scholarships this year. The PTA will help if it is needed. The City of Portland's CHIF Grant funded the Sellwood SUN program for the last six years and we appreciate their funding to Sellwood. Sellwood's grant ran out last June, 2009.
The P.E.A.K. Program offers a variety of classes. The Drama Class is working hard on learning their lines and songs for this musical called ,ON TIME, that is a bout the life of a teenager. The play will be presented on January 28 and 29,2010. We are looking for parents to lend a hand with making some wooden boxes that the students will use as props for the play. Or maybe you have an old wooden box that you could loan us for the play. We might have to paint it. Email Ms.Price if you could help us out. cost $50.00
The Dance Team under the direction of Cleveland students meets Tuesday and Thursday.
We are still looking for a Chess Coach and a Lego Rbotics Coach. if you have time volunteer and make some kids very happy.
The Homework Club meets Monday through Thursday after school in the Library. Mr.Brian Sedey, the Sellwood Librarian and Ms.Price are there to help students learn positive ways to develop positive study skills. We are always looking for Volunteers to help out in the Homework Club. cost $20.00
Every Tuesday you will find Ms.Lisa Hyde in the small gym with a few dodge balls and a bunch of students having a great time playing Dodgeball. Students and adults love this class. cost$40.00.
Our Fall Cooking class just began yesterday. Nicole Heitzler, a former Sellwood student and owner of Twin Paradox, a Coffee Shop on !7th teaches the five week class. cost $30.00. There will be another set of Cooking Classes in the Spring, 2010.
The Marimba students under the direction of Ms. Perry our Math Teacher, meet every Thursday after school to practice new and old Marimba songs. Her students last year were invited to a Zimfest program in June and hope to attend the program again this year. Details see Ms.Perry. cost $35.00
We will have a Red Cross Babysitting class on Friday, November 6, 2009. That is a Teacher Planning day. Students attending the all day (9:00am-3:45pm) class will receive a Red Cross Babysitting Car at the end of the day. The card should help them get Babysitting jobs. There will a second Babysitting Class in the Spring, March 15, 2010. There are still a few openings for the Fall Class. Cost $45.00
THE FALL P.E.A.K classes will end the week of November 20, 2009, and return December 7, 2009 through February 26, 2010. Look for the new green Winter P.E.A.K. Programs in November and sign up again for the P.E.A.K. classes.
