Individualized Education Program (IEP) Purpose

Following assessment and a special education eligibility determination, an Individualized Education Program (IEP) is written by a group of individuals who comprise the student's IEP team. The IEP for students with educational disabilities serves many purposes.

At least annually the special education teacher, specialist, or case manager convenes an IEP meeting to review a student's progress toward his or her IEP annual goals and short-term objectives. The special education teacher, specialist, or case manager is responsible for setting up the IEP meeting, inviting the appropriate participants, and conducting the meeting.  IEP progress reports are completed each trimester to update parents on progress towards meeting IEP goals.

What is Learning Center

The Learning Center (LC) is a classroom, which provides specially designed instruction and necessary related services in all developmentally appropriate academic areas through the modification of the general education curriculum. Students may receive all academic instruction in the Learning Center or participate for one or more subject areas or time periods, as determined by their individual education program (IEP), in an age appropriate regular education program.  Participation in the regular education classroom is determined through the IEP process and based on the ability of the student to derive educational benefit from that classroom.
